At a rapidly expanding biotech company…
THE PROBLEM
The company kept hearing complaints from employees about past workplace legal trainings that dealt only with the technicalities of the law, without impacting workplace culture in a meaningful way. This led to the employees feeling that the training had no real impact other than checking a box on the company’s compliance list.
HOW WE HELPED
Maier Law Group implemented three trainings for the company that were original and slightly irreverent, matching employee culture. The trainings, on sexual harassment prevention, diversity, and data security, were well-received and had lasting effects. After the trainings, MLG advised the company on changes that it should make to policies based on feedback and discussions that the trainings generated. The trainings deeply engaged the employees, sparking discussions that continued long after each training ended.

At a high tech Silicon Valley data storage company…
THE PROBLEM
The company lost its data privacy and employment counsel of 13 years and had to fill her role, which was part-time. The position required someone who was seasoned in this unusual mix of areas and willing to work with diverse internal clientele all over the world.
HOW WE HELPED
MLG filled the role, and Diana has functioned as an ostensible employee of the company for over six years and counting. In addition, for budgeting purposes, MLG came up with a monthly subscription rate for the company that included all MLG services but litigation. In the position, Diana has investigated workplace complaints, initiated a data audit, successfully defended against two EEOC filings and two potential lawsuits, and coordinated the company’s response to the abolition of EU Safe Harbor.

At an emerging Silicon Valley healthcare company…
THE PROBLEM
The company needed to quickly bring itself into compliance with employment and tax laws, as well as deal with a pending action before the Labor Board. They didn’t have the tools they needed to do this, nor a large budget.
HOW WE HELPED
Within a few days of being hired, MLG provided the company a checklist of “to do” items to bring itself into compliance with employment laws and ordered the list by priority and cost. We guided the company toward creating an employment infrastructure that would be sustainable long-term, working with the budget the company had. We also supervised an investigation of the workplace complaint and quickly resolved the matter so that the company did not have to appear before the Labor Board or spend money fighting the complaint. MLG continues to counsel the company on how to create a workplace culture in line with its mission and priorities.
